Default Guild Wars desktop gadget

(If something like this has been suggested in the past, please forgive me. On the off chance that it already exists, please point me in the right direction)

Before I begin, I'm not advocating for any extensive project that will divert resources from GW:B, skill balancing, or GW2.

That being said, I thought of something this morning that I think that everyone using Windows Vista or Windows 7 would appreciate.

One of those windows gadgets you could post in the sidebar that was guildwars related would be great.

The first thing that comes to my mind is a simple tab of the daily quests, just like you see on the wiki.

I'm often busy and if I can see that on my desktop that can remind me "hey, I need that quest", or "that one isn't too hard, I should make some time to get that bounty"; and so on.

I also thought a GW2 newsfeed gadget would be sweet as well, letting us know when updates have been made and new info was available.

good idea but it seems like it would have to be created by a third party.

Hm... desktop gadgets are actually small HTML pages.
All you really need to make one is HTML, CSS and XML. Plus some images and a little bit of scripting.

So, at least for the GW2 App, it should be relatively easy turning it into a gadget.
I don't know about something for GW1 being possible.

But I'd love to see something like that.
Checking daily quests, finale times during festivals, linking directly to your HoM page to check progress...

It could come in handy.

I would find something that pulls a district's or guild's chat up without graphics so I don't have to be logged in to know someone needs a hand with something.

The wiki page updates itself daily right? (correct me if im wrong)
so actually all you need to do is put all those lists of quests (bounty, vanquish, mission, pvp) into that app, and let it rotate it at the same time the quests do
(make some hidden links so when you click on one of those quests, you get redirected to the wiki page )

Hi all,

I've made an IGoogle Gadget to display daily quests and more, and you can use Amnesty Generator to install it on your desktop :

My Gadget :
http://gw.web-widget.net/igoogle.php
Amnesty Generator :
http://www.amnestywidgets.com/GeneratorWin.html

Zaishen, Wanted, Sandford are working, but everything that connect to the wiki seems bugged (Nicholas Traveler, Week end...)

Let me know if this is what you are looking for, I may add some improvements in the future...

Sounds like a good idea for some players.

atm I use "fast dial" running on firefox I have 12 pages showing and 6 of those are GW pages so with one click I can get all the info I need.

I realize this is a "do this for me because I'm lazy" request, but it's about making info that all exp. players check every day available at any time.

I'll have to check out Thot's tool for ideas.

In a perfect world it would have progress towards titles and what you are missing, but then it would have to interface with the game too much and I wouldn't want to bog down the servers at all.

The html/javascript menu sidebar I've created for my Elite skill capping package is pretty much a cut-down version of toolbars I have made for work, that pulls up various pages of info (link based) by the press of a single button (the ones I use at work -- not the skill capping package).

I have included the menu bar from the package in this post. When you open/launch it it creates a sidebar that lists the various Elite skills along with a pull-down menu for bringing up various wiki pages.

While there may be better elite skill tracking packages, I found this javascript menu sidebar approach suited me more. But if I were considering something along the same lines, I might consider using AutoIt to write the desktop tool in.

This is great. Now if I can just get some time to myself to try these out I'll give some feedback LOL
